FROM TRASH TO TREASURE
Year 2020, the year where Covid19 pandemic strikes has changed the way of everybody’s life. Here, I’m still actively working and fortunately, I have this chance to work from home. Doing things that I couldn’t do during my normal working days are really things that I treasured. So other than cooking and trying new recipes, I also try to do an exciting compost making activities at home.
Well, what triggers me and my sister to make our own compost is because of our lime tree in our backyard hasn’t been fruitful in more than a year. Then, we found out that the soil is completely infertile. So we decided to make our own compost for the lime tree.
Here is some steps to make your own compost :
1. Gather your household trash and put them in a bucket for approximately 1 night. When we put it overnight it undergoes chemical reaction of the microorganism in the waste that will make it easier to blend in with the soil. This household trash should be organic, such as lemon skin, chicken bones, or even fish bones.
2. Make sure the location of the hole to burry the piles of household trash under the tree or near the tree that we want its soil to be more fertile.
3. Dig a hole with diameter of 10 to 20 cm, depends on the amount of the organic household trash that you have. Dig in to reach the depth of approximately 30 cm.
4. Once the hole has reach the desired depth, put all the piles of organic household trash within the hole.
5 and 6) Gather all the wilted and the fallen leaves around your garden. Then put it on top of the organic households trash. Well, it use to fade the smell of the organic household trash, to avoid them from being taken later on by undesired small wild animals such as rats, or cats.
7. Put back the soil to cover up all the organic household trash just like in the picture.
It is as exciting as pictured in the photos above. Not only exciting, it is also an enviroment friendly act that we can do it by our self. By making our own compost, it is actually turning your trash into treasure.
It’s a good domino effect, when your soil is more fertile, it stimulates your favorite trees to be more fruitful. To be honest, picking fruits from your own tree is one of healing activities and I bet it taste different than the one we buy in the grocery store.
Simply looking at the bright side, by staying at home longer in year 2020 gives us lot of DIY activities that is fascinating yet useful and also increasing our endorphins!
Last but not least, Don’t forget to stay safe and healthy where ever you are at anytime!
